How To Play

The Short Form

  • Your job as an FMFL team owner is to select a team consisting of seven racers, every week, from the races in seven major series:  Cup, Nationwide, Trucks, IndyCar, F1, Daytona Prototypes and ALMS (LMP1, LMP2, GT1) sports car racing.
  • Your team will score points based on their performances in each weekend’s races.
  • You have to pick at least one driver per scheduled race, every weekend, to be able to start all seven racers.
  • Every week you can click on a race to show a list of drivers or sports cars.  Then you click on a racer to add him (or her, or a multi-driver sports car) to your roster of seven starters.
  • The game uses a scoring system that rewards racers for finish position, qualifying, laps led and what type of racecar they are racing.
  • You MUST have all seven "starters" submitted before 12:00 AM (Midnight) MST (Arizona) on the Friday of each race weekend -- which is really Thursday night -- except for the Bristol NASCAR weekend in August, when starters will be due by Wednesday at Noon (12:00 PM) in Arizona, before that evening's truck race.

The Long Form

The Men With Guts Fantasy Motorsports Franchise League is a skill game that follows the documented events of select national and international motorsports. It is in no way licensed, sanctioned, affiliated with or run under the auspices of any professional motorsports sanctioning body, and does not present itself as such.

The MWG FMFL follows the world's seven premier racing series, including:

NASCAR Sprint Cup
NASCAR Nationwide
NASCAR Camping World Trucks
American Le Mans Series
Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes
FIA Formula 1
IRL IndyCar

Picking Starters: The FMFL lets players pick their 7 favorite drivers (or cars, for Daytona Prototypes and ALMS starters) before each weekend or round; the deadline to enter drivers is 12:00 AM MST (Arizona) on the Friday of each round or weekend. NOTE: In August there is a Truck race at Bristol on a Wednesday night, so the cutoff for all starters will be at 12 Noon on that Wednesday.   Players must start at least one driver (or car, for sports car races) per Cup, Nationwide, Truck, F1, ALMS, Daytona Prototype or IndyCar race scheduled, and points are only awarded to drivers who finish 16th or better. After registering a driver for each scheduled event, players can register their extra starters in any of the scheduled series.

Scoring
Player's 'starting' drivers will earn points only if they finish in the top 16 per race. Points are awarded for finishing position, qualifying, type of car, and leading a lap.

Finishing Points:
1st Place = 160 pts
2nd Place = 150 pts
3rd Place = 140 pts
4th Place = 130 pts
5th Place = 120 pts
6th Place = 110 pts
7th Place = 100 pts
8th Place = 90 pts
9th Place = 80 pts
10th Place = 70 pts
11th Place = 60 pts
12th Place = 50 pts
13th Place = 40 pts
14th Place = 30 pts
15th Place = 20 pts
16th Place = 10 pts

Qualifying Points:
Pole Winner = 55 bonus pts
2nd fastest = 44 bonus pts
3rd fastest = 33 bonus pts
4th fastest = 22 bonus pts
5th fastest = 11 bonus pts

Lap Leader Points:
Each driver that leads an official race lap will receive 22 bonus points; the one driver who leads the most laps will receive another 22 bonus points, but drivers must finish in the top 16!

Manufacturer Points:
Bonus points are also awarded are also awarded  for manufacturer performance.  For series with only one manufacturer, like IndyCar, manufacturer points are awarded in descending order to the top five finishers; 55 pts for first place, 44 for second place, 33 for third, 22 for fourth and 11 for fifth place.  For series with more than one manufacturer, bonus points are awarded to those drivers who finish highest per the top five different race cars.

Winner (First of that type of car to cross the finish line) = 55 pts.
Highest placing driver of next different type of car = 44 pts.
Highest placing driver of 3rd different type of car = 33 pts.
Highest placing driver of 4th different type of car = 22 pts.
Highest placing driver of 5th different type of car = 11 pts.

If there are only three different types of cars in the top 16, mfr points will only be awarded to three drivers. Different cars are defined by chassis/engine. Examples: In Cup, Nationwide and Trucks there are Fords, Chevrolets, Dodge and Toyotas, or four different types of cars. In Formula 1 there are eight different types of cars (Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Renault, etc.). In Daytona Prototype and ALMS races there are various engine/chassis combos, and in the IRL IndyCar Series there's only one manufacturer.  For IRL races, manufacturer points are added to finish points (1st through 5th); for all other series, manufacturer points are awarded to the highest placing entries for up to five different car or chassis/engine combinations. NOTE: Drivers can only earn finish, qualifying, lap leader and manufacturer bonus points by finishing in the top 16!.
